Two Victims Named in the Providence Campus Incident as Law Enforcement Continue Search for Perpetrator.

Two students who were killed in the weekend's mass shooting in Providence were honored at the start of the week – while an intensive search for their assailant continued following the discharge by local law enforcement of the single suspect detained in connection in the case.

Honoring a Lost Student

Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was described as “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, per the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which honored her memory at a ceremony on Sunday.

Cook was second-in-command of Brown’s division of College Republicans of America, the group said. Karoline Leavitt also expressed condolences on social media, saying in part: “Words cannot express. Thinking of her loved ones and companions, particularly her mother and father.”

An International Student

The other person killed was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, a citizen of Uzbekistan in his initial year at the prestigious university, his family confirmed.

The victim's identification was officially acknowledged by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. His ambitions were lofty of pursuing a career in neurosurgery and helping people,” his sibling Samira said in a online post.

What Happened

Nine other people were hurt in the violent event in the engineering building of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.

Officials stated on Sunday evening that a 24-year-old male detained in a police operation at a lodging about around 27 kilometers from the scene earlier in the day was set to be freed.

“There is a killer at large,” said Peter Neronha, Peter Neronha.

Neronha explained, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you need to change course and head another way, and that is the current situation over the last 24 hours or so.”

The US ambassador, Jonathan Henick, said he was “profoundly grieved” by the student's death in a statement. “Our profound condolences go out to the Umurzokov family, friends, and fellow students and lament the passing of his bright future.”

Saturday’s killings at Brown, the nation’s seventh-oldest higher education institution with about 7,300 undergraduate and 3,000 graduate students, happened during one of at least nearly 400 mass shootings reported in the US so far in the current year, according to statistics.
